When we preach, we are not just explaining what Scripture says. In preaching, a new reality is created by the power of the Spirit when the preacher proclaims the good news. This good news does not need us to make it good or real. It is what God has done, is doing, and will do in the world, and is most centrally revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through the declaration of the good news of Jesus, the church is invited to share and participate in this new reality. The sermon does not end with application points to follow, but crescendos into a response of praise and surrender to the living God.
