The preacher proclaims the gospel, focusing on a central truth from the Scripture about who God is and how God acts. In turn the congregation responds with praise, submission, or confession.
The sermon does not leave us with a long to-do list but rather calls us to the Lord's Table to offer up all of who we are and to receive all of who Christ is week after week.
We emphasize preaching-the-gospel because the Scripture addresses our whole selves in relationship with God. We also value in-depth teaching the text (and we teach the text during our 9 a.m. classes) but in our worship gathering, teaching is always the handmaiden to gospel proclamation calling us into a life with God.
